For the last two years I have been periodically purchasing landscape paintings at my local thrift store, painting a rubber duck on them, and then returning the painting back to the same thrift store with the hope that someone will purchase it. (You can check it out HERE) I kept a low profile about it as I wasn’t sure where this venture would lead me. My hope was that someday I could make an easter egg-like hunt out of the whole thing and maybe inspire people to play along. Who knows… maybe make some actual money too!
Time passed.
One day my wife and I go to my daughter’s parent/teacher meeting at her school in NE Minneapolis. A woman approaches me and asks if I am the one who paints rubber ducks. I’m a bit surprised, what do you mean? Is this something you saw on social media? As it turns out, she says that the thrift store, where I drop off my altered paintings, caught wind of my project and made a post about it on their e-newsletter (see below). Haha, I had no idea that thrift stores have newsletters!
So the cat is out of the bag so to speak. I guess I can feel free to “@” the thrift store now when I drop off the artwork. Why not right? Perhaps it will ultimately help me reach my goals.
So anyway, thanks to Hidden Treasures Thrift Store for the plug! I’ll be dropping off another rubber duck painting in the coming weeks. Grazie!
